A World On Wheelz

A disability is when a person has a physical or mental condition that makes it hard for them to do things that most people can do.

Lots of people have a disability! It’s estimated that about 1 in 4 people have a disability.

There are many different types of disabilities, such as:

  • Physical disabilities, which affect a person’s ability to move their body, such as using a wheelchair

  • Sensory disabilities, which affect a person’s ability to see, hear, or feel, such as being blind or deaf

  • Cognitive disabilities, which affect a person’s ability to think, learn, or remember, such as autism or ADHD

  • Mental health disabilities, which affect a person’s emotional well-being, such as anxiety or depression

Yes! People with disabilities can do many of the same things as people without disabilities. They may need some extra help or accommodations, but they can still live happy and fulfilling lives.

You can be a good friend to someone with a disability by treating them just like you would treat any other friend. Ask them if they need help with anything, include them in activities, and be patient if they need more time to do things. Remember, everyone is different and unique, so just be friendly and kind.

Yes, it’s okay to ask someone about their disability, but remember to be respectful and polite.  people may not want to talk about their disability, so it’s important to respect their wishes and not to pry.

There are many things you can do to help people with disabilities, such as:

  • Supporting organizations that help people with disabilities

  • Educating yourself and others about disabilities

  • Advocating for the rights of people with disabilities

  • Being a kind and understanding friend to someone with a disability

  • Helping out with small tasks or errands if they need it.
